Sticky Fingers, my favorite bakery, was on Cupcake Wars All Stars last Sunday and it won again! Doron Petersan’s strength is her creativity. The other contestants struggled with music-themed cupcakes, but Sticky Fingers put together four clever and delicious cupcakes. The winning cupcakes were served at the American Music Awards after party. I wanted to try the winning cupcakes last time, but many of them had nuts (why do people insist on ruining perfectly good desserts by adding nuts?). This time it didn’t use as many nuts, so I decided to buy a pack of cupcakes. The shipping cost almost as much as the cupcakes, but it’s justified because you have to express ship baked goods. Besides, it’s cheaper than a flight to DC. And trust me, it’s well worth it!
First up, the Rolling Stones Brown Sugar cupcake: brown sugar cake with rum frosting and brown sugar brittle in a shiny red liner.
The Johnny Cashew cupcake: chocolate cake with black cocoa frosting and caramel with a chocolate cowboy boot and hat. The cashews were on the top of the cake, so I could pick them off on my side of the cupcake.
The Chuck Berry cupcake: orange cake with blueberry filling and raspberry frosting.
And finally, the Salt-n-Pepa cupcake: chocolate cake with vanilla bean frosting and salty caramel.
Now I’m sad they are all gone. I miss living in Columbia Heights!
Edited to add a picture of how they looked on the show (and presumably how they look at the bakery). Photo from Sticky Fingers website.

They are very creative indeed! I think some of your ideas have been as good – maybe even a little prettier than these cupcakes – maybe the travel didn’t help them?

Well, thanks, but I assembled these cupcakes, so it’s my fault they don’t look pretty. The frosting, filling and caramel comes separately in little containers, which requires more work, but they travel much better. I wasn’t going to use five frosting bags to put together four cupcakes (you lose valuable frosting when you use a bag and I didn’t have any to spare), so I just used a spoon to fill the Chuck Berry cupcake and a knife to spread all the frosting. I added a picture of how they look when Sticky Fingers puts them together.

These look really good! I remember the vanilla cake at your wedding was so tasty!

We just got a four-pack today! Saving them for tomorrow for a tasting with D’s family. Which one was your favorite?

I don’t know which is my favorite! Maybe the brown sugar? I was most surprised with that one. The brittle and rum frosting are delicious. The cake in the salt-n-pepa was very moist and the saltiness of the caramel was interesting, but half of a cupcake was all I needed. The Johnny Cashew(less) one was amazing, but I had to take the cashews out to enjoy it, so that probably shouldn’t be my favorite. And while the Chuck Berry was good, fruit flavored cake just isn’t as good as something chocolate.
Let me know what you think of them.

Ok, I just ate them and Brown Sugar was by far my favorite. It tasted just like a spice cake and was so amazing. I was really surprised i liked it better than the chocolate ones, but it was just ….perfect.

hey Kristen-
Did your package come with a list of all the ingredients? Mine listed out a list of ingredients for each cupcake and frosting. Just wanted to check in case you wanted to try and recreate something!

It did come with a list of ingredients and I am definitely going to try to make the caramel topping. The brown sugar cupcake recipe is on the Food Network website, so I’ll be trying that as well.
